Fiber Optic Termination Kits
The CK01, CK03, and CK05 Fiber Optic Termination / Connectorization Kits include all the necessary tools and supplies to install connectors on single mode and multimode optical fiber. All that's needed to create a fiber optic patch cable is the optical fiber and appropriate connectors. The CK01 kit is for multimode SMA905 connectors, while the CK03 kit is for single mode or multimode FC/PC connectors, and the CK05 kit is for single mode or multimode FC/APC connectors.
Connector Touch-Up Polishing and Repair Kit
The TUK05 Touch-Up Polishing Kit enables scratched or damaged fiber connector end faces to be repaired by polishing out the scratches. This repair kit allows the performance of connectors to be restored if they have been lightly damaged. The kit includes everything necessary to repair FC/PC or FC/APC connectors with ceramic ferrules. Additional components can be purchased to repair other connector types (see below for details).

Thorlabs' Smart Pack Initiative is aimed at minimizing waste while providing adequate protection for our products. By eliminating any unnecessary packaging, implementing design changes, and utilizing eco-friendly materials, this initiative seeks to reduce the environmental impact of our product packaging.
The updated CK01, CK02, and CK03 kit packaging consists of recycled paper plus minimal plastic and weighs 29% less than the original packaging. This weight change results in a 15.08 kg, 20.54 kg, and 10.66 kg reduction in travel-based CO2 emissions yearly per respective kit, based on typical product sales.
As we move through our product line, we will indicate re-engineered, eco-friendly packaging with our Smart Pack logo, which can be seen above.

While putting an 8° FC/APC angle on an FC/PC connector using the D50-FC/APC is theoretically achievable, it is a difficult polishing procedure to perform. In addition, if you polish off material from an already connectorized FC/PC connector, the ferrule height will likely end up out of spec, preventing a physical contact mate if you used the converted connector with another FC/APC fiber. I have reached out directly regarding possible solutions for your application. IAlekseenko

(posted 2019-04-05 11:56:20.0) Hello Igor, thank you for contacting Thorlabs. Yes, you can use the CK05 kit to reterminate those couplers and the 30126A9. That being said, the PN850R2A1 is a PM Coupler while the 30126A9 is only a single mode connector (non-PM). Both of these couplers use 900um tubing so the 30126A3 is not suitable. |

Thorlabs' Fiber Optic Termination / Connectorization Kits contain all of the materials for your connectorization needs with the exceptions of the single mode or multimode connectors and the optical fiber, which need to be purchased separately. The CK01 is an SMA Connectorization Tool Kit, the CK03 is an FC/PC Connectorization Tool Kit, and the CK05 is an FC/APC Connectorization Tool Kit. The CK03 and CK05 kits include a Rubber Polishing Pad (50 Durometer) that is used to produce PC (radiused) polishes.
We recommend our fiber optic disposal unit (FTDU, sold separately) to properly dispose of all cleaved fiber scraps, epoxy, and syringes.

We Recommend Using the FS201 Fiber Inspection Scope with the TUK05 Kit

A fiber optic connector end face is an optical-quality surface that needs to be free of dirt and scratches for optimal performance. When cleaning the end face is not effective, Thorlabs' TUK05 Touch-Up Polishing Kit allows worn fiber connector end faces to be repaired by polishing out the scratches.
The kit includes polishing supplies and complete repair instructions, all housed in a convenient carrying case. The kit has components compatible with FC/PC and FC/APC ceramic ferrule connectors and has enough polishing film to repair approximately 20 connector end faces.
Connectors can generally be repolished 10 times before reconnectorization is necessary. For replacement of worn or marred connectors, contact Thorlabs' tech support for assistance.
Kit Expansion Options
We strongly recommend using a fiber inspection scope such as the FS201 with this kit. To repair different connector types, additional polishing pucks can be purchased separately. Our aluminum oxide polishing film can be used with this kit to polish steel ferrule connectors, and rougher grits of diamond lapping film can be used to repair deeply scratched connectors (see the User's Manual for details).
The carrying case included with the TUK05 has extra storage slots for the FS201 microscope, two extra polishing pucks, and one extra dropper bottle as well as space for additional lapping film. The scope itself includes batteries and fiber adapters compatible with FC/PC, FC/APC, ST®*/PC, SC/PC, SMA905 and SMA90 connectors. For more information about the FS201, see the full web presentation. The case has removable foam inserts (see photo to the left) for reuse or storage of other components.
